Bobbin Sense

By Judy Stamel

Do you have trouble with the few odd bobbin stitches showing through your machine embroidery , when using a dark colour in a design? Easy solution is to change the bobbin to one with matching or similar colour  while stitching out that particular colour block . I have just finished sewing out an alphabet which was outlined in dark navy blue & I changed the bobbin to one wound with black .  No sneaky white stitches in sight!  I know some people use fine felt pens but unless you use a laundry marking pen most felt pens are now made to come out in the wash.

THANKS FOR SOLVING ANOTHER PROBLEM FOR MY DAUGTHER, SISTER & ME WE THOUGHT THE BOBBIN TROUBLE WAS WITH US AND THE TENTION ON OUR MACHINES

Actually I just bought a FABRIC marker to cover gaps in some satin stitching. Seems to hold up!

I have done that several times, it is much quicker then a marker and no worry about getting the marker on the fabric!

I have always felt that if bobbin stitches show thru, then you have a problem with machine adjustment. I have been doing this for years, and the older machines did have a lot of problems, but the last five years no problem with Designer one.

I did not know that they did bobbin cotton in any other colour than white. Or did you use ordinary sewing cotton?

I use poly thread. Smart Needle sells spools with a matching bobbin pre-wound in the base of each spool. These are great when you really need them, but don’t take the place of our regular embroidery thread and bobbins. The price is good for quality thread, but not all of us can afford use these all the time. Sew long! Stitchgeek <<<< has been know to use fabric marker with no problem if you heat set them.

I was told that the bobbon thread showed thru because I needed to change my needle. I’m new and I’m told to change the needle after every set I stitched…is this true? I’ve been changing the needle often to avoid the bobbin thread showing but if your tip works, I’ll definately try it
