Did I Leave the Iron On?

by Mary B.

I’m always afraid I’ll go off and leave my iron on, especially when I’m interrupted in the middle of something.
My solution is to plug both the iron and a radio into a multiple outlet strip.  The radio is always tuned to my favorite classical music station, so it plays every time I turn on the strip.
It’s easy to remember to turn it off when I leave the room, and the iron goes off, too.

My iron is in the bathroom – when it is plugged in – I leave the light on – when I unplug it – I turn the light off. Hasn’t failed in 15 years.

Very wise, I forgot mine yesterday

Great design, just what I need to get me going on my embroidery again. Thanks

My daughter takes the iron in her car with her no matter where she goes. She has been doing this for years. Saves alot of trips back to the house to check it out! Poor kid….I wonder what I ever did to her???

Great Idea… Now do you have any suggestions as to how to remember to turn off the tea kettle before you leave the house.

Guilty as charged….great trick. Thank you.

Great minds think alike! My strip has a lamp plugged into it instead of a radio When I turn the strip on, the lamp comes on. I’m used to turning out lights to save energy so this works great for me.

  8. Jill says:

I’ve done the same type of thing except it’s a lamp. If the lamp is on, so is the iron.

  9. Sharon says:

This works great if you are only using the power strip as an electrical outlet. But, I use mine with a surge protector as well. For others doing as I do, don’t flip the switch or you are no longer protected!

haven’t left the iron on yet but we did go away for the weekend and left the deep fat fryer on. no fire but i had to buy a new deep fat fryer.

What a clever idea, Don’t think I would have ever thought of that myself.
    Thanks

    Thanks!
Brilliant idea. Like you, I am always wondering if I’d turned it off.
Now, can you come up with a hint for ‘Did I lock the door?’

  13. A great idea. I also suffer from the same phobia. So I will definately use your tip. Thanks for sharing.

Now that is a great idea. I have my iron plugged into a strip, but never thought to add the radio to it also. THanks for sharing.

You gave two good tips not just one. I hope others will give the second one a try. I too find a classical music station does the trick when I’m crafting. Strange because I’m a Rock and Roller. lol. Just one song will make you a believer.

That’s a great tip, I used to do the same…….Love to listen to classical music whenever I am in my craft room. I too had my machine and computer plugged in to a surge protector…….I just used a seperate protector for the computer and machine (actually found that one with the battery back-up works best for me as our Electric Co. has a tendency to just turn the power off with no warning…..always right in the middle of a detailed design) I pluged the Iron and lights into one and computer and machine into the one with the additional battery back-up. However, I just solved that problem 2 weeks ago……….WOW, I got so excited……was in a store (out of town visiting daughter) that was going out of business…….FOUND an OLISO SMART IRON PRO…….MARKED DOWN TO $25 no Box……….Snatched that up with no Questions……..LOVE IT …….can set it to turn itself off. I would never have been able to buy one at regular price……….but WOW is it ever worth it, my items look so much more professional…….OHHHH sorry now I sound like a commercial…….LOL
