Get a Grip!

by Ann Troxell

Having arthritis sometimes makes it hard for me to tighten the screw fasteners on my embroidery hoops.  I have found that a small pliers is an excellent tool to tighten and loosen the screw.  Now my fabric doesn’t slip and my embroidery looks great.

I place half of a rubber/foam pencil gripper over the screws on the hoops of my embroidery machine – makes them a little bigger and easier to tighten and loosen.
Just cut the pencil gripper to the length needed to cover the screws. Try it – a cheap solution!

Small pliers are a good idea for people with hand weakness due to arthritis or other problems. Just be careful to not overtighten which is even more possible if you use large pliers because you would have more leverage.

Good tip..I have the same problem

Ann,having the same problem as you, I have found that using the “gooshey grips” that kids slip on their pencils work really well for me. I just slip them on the screw turner and they really help, even if you have lost the strenght in your hand.[I found mine at Walmart]

I use a screw driver, because I have the same problem. This seems to work and you can tell when you are getting it too tight. You don’t want to strip the threads in the screw!

I think I posted my first reply on the wrong page. Sorry! Here it is again. I have the same problem with my hands and my dealer told me to use a screw driver to tighten the screws. That way you can tell if you get it too tight. You don’t want to strip the threads on the screw.

    Hi Guys
This is yet another good use for that stretchy tape they use on you when you give blood. The one I talked about before about using to tame the thread tails on your thead and bobbins. The one that sticks to itself but not to you.I think my tip was in may or june.
