Donna shares her technique:
First. let me tell you that I really love this set. I have been playing
with the bear design. I could not find any instructions or tips for paper
dolls on your tips/instructions. So I did my own thing. FOr the first bear
dfool, I hooped tear away stabilizer in the 4″ hoop. Then I stuck a piece
of timtex on top with spray adhesive and sewed out the bear according to
the color stitch chart directions. I used brown bobbin thread. I cut the
bear out with small sharp scissors and touched up the edges with a
permanent fabric marker. He’s cute. But it took a lot of thread.
Then I had an idea. What if I appliqued the features and edge stitches on
brown fabric on timtex! Skipping thread 1 and the belly stitch outs, I
stitched the bear out again. I stopped the machine after the insideof the
ears were stoitched and adhered another piece of brown fabric on the
underside to hoop so the back would be covered.
I really like this version better. It was a big savings on thread. I am
going to sew out the clothes on WSS with fabric applique where possible. I
plan to skip the tabds and use Aleene’s Tack it Over on the back side of
the clothes.
Here’s my suggestion. I would love to have a set of ME paper dolls that is
designed for applique (placement lines, tack down and satin stitch edge
finishes.) I really like the animal dolls. Perhaps your designers could
create some for bunnies or kitties.
I have seen paper dolls on other sites. But I really like your bear. This
is a suggestion, not a complaint.

Love your idea and plan to use it. Thanks, Penny
I like Donna’s instruction, but I have yet to find the real instructions for these paper dolls. I have lots of grand daughters and would like to know where I can find this sites complete instructions for this project ~ maybe you have it, but this old bird was not able to find it. Please help!
Thanks ~ Victoria
Hi Donna,
What is Timtex?
Timtex is a heavy stablizer used for the rims of caps, fabric bowls and postcards. Other products are Peltex and Stiffy.
I would like to find a real paper doll, a girl and a boy…the bear one is very cute, I appreciate the version that you don’t have to spend so much threat, it is very expensive.
Thanks for the wonderful people that share ideas and make so clever comments.

Alecia Gil who was asking about paper dolls (boy & girl) Husqvarna Viking has two sets. I have both of them,(received them as gifts). Take my word for it, you won’t get them for the prices you get on this web site !!!!!
Yesterday I found this site. I was on it all day! Downloaded 20 sets. Back again today only got 8 this time.
Thank you for a wonderful site.

While I haven’t done this set of bears, I have done another. I made a couple of sets to give to my little friends to keep them occupied during church service. I scanned each outfit, printed it out on plain white paper, then laminated it. Using Alene’s Tack It Over, I was able to stick the outfits to the plastic (so the little ones knew where they were supposed to go) and made a paper pocket inside the front cover of a homemade book to put the bear in. I am not sure who likes them more, the little girls, or the big girl mommies.
I really love the paper doll bear. I’ve enjoyed making them for my friends and family’s, little girls. There great for in the car and on trip with little ones.
I have had one problem with this patterns. The bear ears will not fill in,in the middle of the inner ears.
I do hope that some day you will make girl and boy paper doll (some kind of princess would be nice).
Well keep up the great job on all you embroidery patterns you put out. Thank you for making them afordable.
The paper doll bear is really cute. I’ve stitched the bear both as FSL and on felt, but both times the fill stitches didn’t reach the outline stitching, i.e. ears, arms, legs, body. Any advice is welcome.
I have made paper dolls for my girls and they are beautiful. But I would like to find a way to make the back of the clothes tacky so they can pick them up after they dress them. Or I can put them on the wall and dress them there.Any suggestions?

You can buy Aleen’s Tack It Over and Over to do that. It’s a glue you brush on the back of the clothes, let it dry, then it will make them stick to the doll until you peel them off. It does loose tackiness after awhile, so you will need to reapply. We keep ours stuck to a plastic file folder.
