Pioneer Warmth!

created by Sandy Holman

I wanted to send in a picture to you of a lap quilt that I finished using your redwork pioneer designs and could not find a place to do this. I see other people have sent in pictures. My sister who is going on 60 needed a lap quilt and this one is the first that I have done in redwork. Thanks again.

Very nice, just one question. Did you embroider the squares and then assemble or did you assemble the quilt and use the redwork for the quilting? It is hard to tell in this picture?

very nice. I am curious did yu use white in the bobbin? Some say that is better & looks more like hand. I have tried both to me not a lot of difference.

That is so pretty. I would like to make one like this. Did you make up your pattern or where did you find the pattern for the quilt?

  18. Alta Swaine says:

I think the quilt is beautiful. I also have done a redwork quilt but I used blue instead since the rest of my quilt was in blues & white. If you would like to see my quilt it is at DesignsBySiCK.com Embroidery Forums > All Albums > 1allamericangirl’s Profile.

    Keep up the good work.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments on the quilt. I love the designs that Designs By Sick have. They stitch out with such ease.
In answer to the questions on the pattern, I just started laying square on the floor and then put them in the order in which I wanted to sew the squares. I didn’t have a pattern. For the triangles I just cut the square in half, for the four corners, I cut one of the squares in quarters. I sewed the squares and strips together and then put the embroidery designs on them, then went on to complete the quilt. I used red thread in the bobbin I wanted to make sure that the designs didn’t have any white that might pull through. Since I was sewing on white, I thought red would do a better job. It was easier to do it that way for me. You can use any size square that you want and any size stripping to get the look that you like.

I *love* the pattern. I was wondering what to do with these types of designs. What a great idea. I love all these designs and I’m having so much fun on this site

Sandy, Out of a huge curiosity, was your mother Joyce Holman, a Home Economics teacher in Michigan? If so, she was one of my favorite teachers and I really enjoyed her sewing classes when I was in Jr. High.
