Finished size is 4″ wide x 6″ long

Materials needed:

  • Wash cloth- basic 11 inch or larger, cut in half
  • Tear away stabilizer or Opaque wash away stabilizer
  • Thread to match wash cloth
  • Thread colors for design
  • Tape or pins
  • Clear Wash away stabilizer

General Instructions:

1st 2 Colors and Last 2 Colors and Bobbin thread should match the color of the wash cloth used.

Color #1 : placement stitch, stitch this on the stabilizer.

Remove hoop from machine and place 1/2 of the wash cloth over the stitched outline. Make sure to place the hemmed edge of wash cloth at the bottom of the design.
This will serve as the hem for the Mitt.
Tape or Pin to hold in place.

Color #2 : This is the tack down for the wash cloth.

Continue with the design area as called for with each design.

Place a piece of clear water soluble (such as Solvy) stabilizer over the top of the design area prior to stitching. This will hold the terrycloth down so that the design will stitch out crisp.

After the design is finished stitching, you can gently pull the clear stabilizer off the design. Any left over pieces will wash away.

Last 2 Colors :

*If you want a soap pocket, Cut the top off of the washcloth that has been stitched down and place it over the top of the design area with the hem about  3 1/2″ – 4″ of the way down from the top of the mitt.*

Remove hoop from Machine and place 2nd piece of wash cloth, right side down, over the top of the design area.
Make sure that the hem edges match the hem edge of the first piece.

Stitch next color: this is to hold the 2 pieces together.

Stitch next and last color : this is a zig-zag stitch to keep edges from fraying.

Remove Mitt from hoop and trim around the outside of the zig-zag edge.

Remove bits of stabilizer.

Turn the Mitt inside out so that the seams are now on the inside and the design is on the outside.
