Instructions for Placements

This is a short tutorial on placements for your place setting and napkins.
First press placemat (if all fabric) so all the wrinkles are out and it’s smooth.
Find the center of the placemat and using a ruler draw a line down center using a water soluble or air erasable fabric marking pen.

placements01 placements02

Next, divide the left half and right half of the placemat in the same manner. You will end up with four sections on the placemat.

placements03

Then find the center horizontally and draw a line across the placemat. It should look like the one below when all lines are marked.

placements04

I have a clip I purchased from my dealer that I mounted to the end of my work table that my hoop will clip into. It is wonderful as it holds the bottom part of hoop for you so you can use both hands to hoop your project. Check with your dealer to see if it’s available for your hoops. Mine was pricey but I think it’s well worth not having to fight with the hoop and while trying to line up fabric at the
same time.

placements05

Now slide your stabilizer under the section you are going to hoop. Place top of hoop on fabric and line up hoop, centering marks with the lines on your fabric.

placements06

Make sure your bottom hoop is loose enough for the stabilizer and the fabric to fit into then place fabric over bottom of hoop and press into place. Tighten hoop and your ready to stitch.

SUPPLIES:

PREPARE FABRIC:

Cut a piece of fabric large enough to cover inside your hoop and one of felt.
You can use the same fabric for the bottom if you like. I prefer using felt.

coaster01

Place fabric over top of hoop making sure you cover the stitching.
Then stitch next color change.

coaster02

Follow color change chart for design and stitch out.

coaster03

After stitching design, remove hoop and trim fabric from between the 2 halves and around outer edge as pictured below in next 2 photos.

Step One

Step 2

Step 2

Return hoop to machine and stitch next color (this should be the 3rd from the last color). This is your satin stitch for the inside of coaster as pictured below.

coaster06

Now slide your back felt or fabric under the hoop, making sure it covers entire coaster area.

coaster07

Stitch next to last color change – this will stitch the back to the front then remove hoop and trim back felt/fabric.

coaster08

Return hoop to machine and stitch last color. This is the satin stitch around the edges that completes the coaster.

coaster09

You’re finished. Remove from hoop & enjoy!

  2. Pat says:

Love it so much had to buy it right away for stitching THIS afternoon!!!!

  3. Kathleen A Rahe says:

Good idea. Do you think that with fall around the corner, you could design some place settings for that season?

  4. Vel Mossler says:

I love the whole 3 piece set. I don’t understand how to use the button holes on the napkin wrap. Please explain how to put napkin wrap together. Thanks Vel Mossler
[editor's note: once the buttonholes have been created, snip the opening and then close the wrap - with a ribbon through the buttonholes and tied. rob, editor]

  5. JOHANNA says:

Is there a PDF of these steps available somewhere because I need something to look at as I am doing it?
[editor's note: PDF should be in the set. If not, please click on SUPPORT and then fill out a support ticket and let us know. Be sure to tell us: set name and format downloaded. Thanks, rob, editor]

  6. Alice T says:

I really wish you would add the instruction for your sets to the Zip file so we have them when we are ready to stitch and for future reference like most other sites do. This would be most helpful and a lot less agrivating than having to hunt down instructions 6 months from now or when ever you want to complete a project.
[editor's note: Instructions are supposed to be in each set. Please let us know if you do not find them in a set. Go to the website, click on SUPPORT and then send in a support ticket. Thanks! rob, editor]

  7. Carol says:

when i first saw your coasters i couldn’t figure out the two sides thing… now i get it the glass goes inside so the pesky guests who just plop their glasses anywhere are ‘covered’ and your wood tables are safe :)

    great idea.

wish i had these before i replaced all my wood coffee tables with glass tables – my dad is the put glass anywhere kind…

so any ideas on how to protect my carpets when he drinks soda and puts the glass on the carpet?

can’t wait to make this set…
any way to personalize each coaster so everyone drinks from their own glass? (thinking of adding names for repeat offenders — i mean guests/dad)
