Springtime, the Perfect Time, for Turtles!

by Karen

My daughter just loves turtles and even says she is a turtle, so when I saw your adorable Springtime Turtles I knew what I had to do……Make a quilt of course!
I decided to use my Bernina Embroidery Software as it has a quilt program within.
I could bring in each turtle (I put some echo stitches around each turtle prior to sending them to machine) auditioning its location on my block that I created also in the software then print out and sew with no surprises as I could see it on the computer before I made it and it looks even better.
There are two borders one 5cm black and then a 10cm dark blue around the outside plus I put a label on the back. For the blue diamond blocks I went back to the computer and digitized the flower shape trying to keep it in a diamond shape and then hooped each and embroidered them in a matching thread. I am not a skilled free motion quilter though I love to practice so I did a free motion shape on the black border which also had extra batting just for fun.
My daughter has not seen this quilt yet as I decided it would make a special Christmas present.

I like the way you set the blocks. This would work for many embroidery designs. Thanks for sharing your project.

I love your turtle quilt, including your label. I like the way you added some of your own digitizing, which made it unique :-) .

I love it! I am a little surprised at your label, though. You gave credit to everybody; SICK, the fabric maufacturer, even Bernina, but where or where is your name??? You should get equal billing here for all the lovely creativity, labor and love!
