Project of the Week – Tea Bag Holders

created by Rob, digitized by Heidi

These Tea Bag Holders have been created for the 4 x 4 hoop so everyone can create them. Heidi’s expertise in digitizing has made them quick-to-stitch.  All of the holders can be personalized!

In addition to different occasions (weddings, bridal showers, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations), we also have many tea bag holders for different charitable +/or support organizations. The Tea Bag holders can be used as fundraisers or giveaways for all kinds of events!

  1. Pat H says:

I downloaded both sets before the instructions were uploaded. Stitched one out on muslin, however the felt does hold it’s shape better. Hope these will sell at an upcoming craft show.

Thanks to Heidi for a useful design!

  2. Pat H says:

Addendum to my last comment. I could not find the tags in either set. Could you please add them for those who need them? I’ll be printing mine from the instruction page.
[editor's note: Pat - You were fast on the draw! I had forgotten to send them to Cindy to add to the sets until I was putting the Newsletter together this morning! They are all there now, hopefully!

I don’t know how large these are, but wouldn’t they work great for gift cards? Something that my children and grandchildren like, they can buy the things they want or need that I don’t know about!
    [Jerry - Closed up and tied - I think about 2 x 2

  19. Esther Waayenberg says:

Whoops, just sent a message on Facebook asking for something like this to use as an invitation to a tea party or as a thankyou…Another thought, make the Awareness ribbon more generic so it could be used for any organization or cause. For instance, my 4 year old grandson passed away from cancer. Come to think of it, why not make up a blank one and people could design one using their own designs and texts to fit their need? Thanks for what you do.

[Esther, That was my thought behind the Pray For A Cure holder. You can stitch it out in any color - as most Cancer Awareness organizations have their own color.]

  20. Milenda says:

Ideas, ideas! They keep popping into my head!

I am a tea drinker but most people I know are not. BUT almost everyone I know likes candy or chocolate. This would be perfect for a couple pieces of hard candy (werthers, starlight mints, butterscotch, rootbeer barrels etc..) or a mini piece of chocolate (andi’s, mini packs m&m’s… think halloween size)

Then I started thinking more… what if I could hang it on a tree with a treat inside? Christmas candy or andi’s mint choc wafers come to mind for that… But then.. making an Advent calendar? Put #’s on the back and you get to open them for a candy/choc treat each day! (mini bone, dried fruit piece for birds, or cat treat for the critters)

But can’t keep the animals out… putting a fresh sprig of catnip in one and tying it shut… That would drive the kitties batty yet be easy to open/shut. sewing crinkle paper into it to make it crackle. Small toy breeds of dogs would like it too with a bell or a squeaker put inside. (recycle the squeakers out of toys already chewed up or broken.)

Oh boy, I can’t wait to get started on these now!

Fundraising may be easy with this! I can see them selling rather quickly with an animal shelter logo on them.

  21. Elizabeth says:

Stunning idea. Can’t wait to see the reaction of my children when I send them some of these. Thanks a million.

  22. DeEtta says:

These are great! I can think of so many people I want to send these to, friends and family.

  23. Linda says:

I just love these and cannot wait to stitch some out! Do you have plans to do a larger size? These would be perfect to hold a single packet of hot cocoa (fold down top to form a square). “Snowman Soup”, snow flakes, etc. come to mind. Perfect gifts for coworkers, teachers, etc.

  24. Susan says:

These are too cool! The only thing I did different was stop before the diamond outline, satin stitch border and ribbon holes stitched, floated a piece of fabric underneath and finished the design. Now the inside is almost as pretty as the outside!

  25. Verda says:

Thanks so much for these cute tea bags at a great price. I love doing little things like this and will enjoy a cup of tea with someone someday as will make a couple, put in my purse and go for a visit. You do have cute ideas. I love reflection candles for memorial candles with those cute little battery candles. Thanks again

  26. Crafty-liz says:

    Hi
Thank you so very, very much! I just love “in the hoop” designs. It is something different and I am getting tired of always doing a design on something. This is a gift on it’s own! Love it! Thanks again.

  29. Rae Harradine says:

I do a lot of knitting and sewing pillows for the ladies who have undergone a mastecomy and have been looking for a small gift to give to the people with cancer. This is a marvellous idea.Thank you.I dont know if you have seen a pillow for that purpose but I got it from another site and a Australian lady came up with the idea and it has spread to a lot of hospitals here.thank you again.Have a great day and keep smiling.Rae

  30. Dayna says:

I just made my first “Race for the Cure” tea bag holder and it turned out beautiful! This is a great idea for our annual “Tickled Pink”, an all night quilt for the cure. Oh my… this means that I will have to make about 80!! Thank you so much for the fun project.

  31. Barbara says:

Thank you for these, work at the health department, October is Breast Cancer awearness month and plan to make them to give to the ladies. Great Ideals.

  32. rob says:

I did create a Please Support Our Troops – thinking these would be great to tuck a little something into for the military serving their country.

And, the Pray for a Cure can be stitched out in any color for different awareness groups.

Thank you for all of the lovely comments and ideas!

Milenda, Your excitement tickles me! Now you know how I felt when I was creating them! :)

Will have to see about larger ones for cocoa +/or single serving coffee packets. My major objective was to create an In-The-Hoop project for those of you who are limited to the 4 x 4 hoop.

    huggers,
    rob

  33. gram says:

dear rob and heidi I just finished my first teabag holder the results were great. For those of you who is looking for easy felt you can get it at Michael’s. Now I have another question in the designs for the little note pads are the done on the same felt. Keep these projects coming!

  35. k.lynne laub says:

Great ideas , can you tell me were I can purchase scissors like in the photo ?
[rob here - I purchased those from a dealer in NW Florida. They are awesome - offset so you can snip threads while your project is still hooped - and sharp as can be! You can find her website here: http://www.ruthiesnotions.com/ , I think the scissors are here: http://www.ruthiesnotions.com/rnscissors2.html the Gingher 6" Double-Curved, Offset Handle, Chrome Finish. huggers, rob]

  36. Deb Fox says:

I bet the individually wrapped Ghiradelli Chocolates would fit in these too. I am planning to use them for a fundraiser.
[editor's note: You are all so creative! I only thought of tea when I created them!! You are right - those chocolates will fit perfectly! Would love to see a picture of your fundraiser holders! ~rob, editor]

  37. carol fitzgerald says:

hi from australia i have just made my first teabag i used some firm cotton and used some shapewell that i had hanging a round it worked very well also did not use any other backing. or iron on interfacing for firmness will be ok this is a cross over from sewing i have often used interfacing with embroidery to firm up a cushion front.

  38. Marlene says:

Will we get any tea bag holder designs for Valentine’s day? Hope so. I have sets 1 and 2. Wonderful.

[rob here- i am afraid not - but I do want to see if I can get one together - for a combination Easter/Mom's day!
    hugs
    rob]

  39. Tanya says:

I love the little tea bag holder.!!
The only thing I added was a back before I cut away the extra fabric. This made the inside nice and neat. No stitches showing.
