Watch the Birdie!

by Kelley Potter

Here is the project I did for a woman from my church. She has a love of cockatiels and asked if I could do something for her.
As luck would have it, I won a design set from my Father’s Day article I submitted at this great website and chose this as my prize so I could accommodate her.
I also ran a zig-zag stitch around the rim of her hat with a matching thread. (It’s a little hard to see on the pictures).
You can see the Cockatiels set here.

How did Kelley hoop the parakeet? I’m assuming she used a 4×4 hoop – so how did she get it inside the hat? With stabilizer yet? Sure is cute! Can’t wait for the answer so that I can make one.

To answer Reginas question, I hooped it by laying the bucket hat as flat as possible. The 5×7 hoop slid right inside. I did however have to continually smooth the demin as it stitched because the top of the bucket hat didn’t allow it to truly be straight. Thanks for all the comments!
