Thought I would start a new thread as half of new years day is already over for us down under. Rain is predicted for later today, so I planted new lawn hoping the rain will come soon & help it get a grow on. Even with the rain it will be another 40 C day.

Your weather sound challenging to say the least Phillipa, a bit different to sunny Queensland.

I'm now going to spend the rest of the day sewing & try to get some things finished.

    Happy new year everyone.

Happy New Year Penny. I had started a new thread in readiness, so have merged both threads to save confusion.

Today the fur kids get wormed, this way I can remember when the next treatment is due, I might do some sewing or embroidery, depending on what the day brings to us.

We slept the old year out, in bed by 9.30pm, there are days the SADD is really bad and yesterday was one of them, it's the lack of sunshine. I didn't hear a thing if any of the neighbours were letting off fireworks. Most probable too cold and damp outside.

Turtle Owl, I hope the doctors keep listening to you and DH.

la-cole your egg nog substitute sounds interesting.

Shawn, if you are reading this thread may this year be prosperous.

Rob, I do hope things are feeling a bit softer for you ((((((())))))))

Shatasmom, are you home from the Casino with a pocket full of coins?

Granny Elen, give yourself a bit of TLC, you give so much to others, take a bit of time for yourself.

Sonia, teddy RN and all our missing ones, if you have stopped by, may the new Year be more peaceful and kinder to you.

Everyone who just joined us, don't be strangers this year, we don't bite, but we do share cyber hugs, melted chocolate through cyber space and sometimes can help with an embroidery or sewing problem.

Penny, I apologise. I thought I was merging the thread I started with your thread so you would have the byeline credit.but instead your thread got merged with mine.

i moving my self to the naughty step for being so stupid. I am also going to see if I can give you the bye-line.

Phillipa, what is a byeline credit?

I got a lot of lawn planted & right on cue it started to rain. Still very hot though.

I'd like to agree with your last few lines, & hope those who have been unable to post for one reason or another find the time to share a line with us & those who have just joined us enjoy sharing thoughts & photos with us.

You started your thread, underneath it says who started the thread and the date, the writing underneath is the byeline 'started by penny 1 jan 2017'. instead it reads I started it. I was merging my thread with yours, or so I thought.

we have rain, but it is cold.

Happy New Year everyone. Hope your New Year is healthy, prosperous and your bobbin always full. I didn't win anything, but only lost $25.00, so not too bad. My son was the lucky one, he won over a $100. Didn't get to bed until after 1:30AM, its been awhile since I have voluntary stayed up that late. Did have lost of fun.

Phillipa, it sounds like you need some heat lamps to help keep the SADD away. My goodness you do have a lot of kitties.

Only losing $25.00 is not bad and to boot you had a night out, your son won something so, all in all a good night. Yes we have the cats by default, Fidget, Blossom and precious were deliberate, Mr Kitty and Tom adopted us, the rest are the Chancers, they sadly have been abandoned by their owners, so spread their time at Loraine's and with us. we share the Vet's expenses for these cats. Lilly is the wanton feline, she keeps having kittens and we cannot catch her despite everything. We remove the kittens at about six weeks, and socialise them, then find forever homes for the kittens. This is how we got Blossom and Precious, Loraine got Billy and Teddy. I have been able to catch the Tom cats and have had them neutered, so it only leaves our kitten mumma to get sorted.

Happy 2017! Started the new year on a snowy note. Temp is supposed to drop to single digits over the next few days.

I don't think the byeline matters, as long as we are all enjoying chatting, that's all that matters.

It poured with rain here last night & looks like rain again today, a great day for sewing.

We watched last summers Edinburgh Tattoo on TV last night. It is always shown here on New Years Day at a kid friendly time. Henk & I love the spectacle.

Glad you had an enjoyable night out shastasmom, & that one of your party won something.

ID:	42738Monday 2 Jan 2017. Nothing changed, weather colder and lower temperatures on the way, one blessing, no rain. you can see the ice forming as you watch. I think I might get on with some embroidery I have the Night Before Christmas wall hanging/quilt to finish (this is for Ellie and Lilah for this year). I wonder how long it will be before they are too big to sit on Santa' knee?

i hope all is as well as it can be for everyone. Soft hugs

Your granddaughters look wonderful Phillipa. The question is how long will they want to sit on santa's lap.

My new years resolution is to finish all UFO's. I put a button on a hanging towel to finish it yesterday and today finished this quilt.Click image for larger version.

I am hoping the girls will keep the magic alive for a few more years before they become cynical or street wise?

Love the quilt, it's amazing what you can with scraps. I love your creativity Penny.

Day three into the New Year. Arrrggghhhh, how did I develop an abscess on my backside? it hurts to sit AND I am developing a head cold. I went out in the garden yesterday, my nose got cold (stop laughing). Went shopping on New Years Eve, there was a snotty nosed kid running around, sneezing all the time. I bet this is where I picked it up from. So between a sore throat, stuffy nose, sore bum, bunged knee, I have made a good start to the year. Oh well nothing for it, but home made Rock and Rye to help alleviate all the symptoms.

I am not sure if any of you remember the Thread Director brought out by the Missouri Star Quilt Company. I had an email this morning from David Caulder saying he was in England and want to buy a thread director for himself and two ladies, asked who was my supplier and how much woulds shipping be, then there was an automated signature with an American phone number, (hello that phone number looks familiar). Also stating shipping costs from America would be prohibitive. Good thing we have never made these to sell and definitely not distribute. You might remember Sonia and I tried to make something similar and see if it worked to stop the thread from twisting. We posted up our pictures of our guides.

Looks like The Missouri Star Quilt Company might be thinking the Hobbit's handiwork could be infringing on their copyright or something. I replied that if he wants to buy a Thread Director in England he goes to the supplier who sells them for the Missouri Star Company as I certainly don't sell them or my version of the the thread guide. I did give him the link to the English supplier. If Caulder.Com wants my version they are more than welcome to it, but I am sure not selling these to anyone. To buy the brass rod and the plastic bit of tube as well as the shrink plastic costs us as we have to buy retail, so who in their right mind would breach a copyrighted product? What a morning.

Phillipa, my nose always gets cold, so not laughing. I feel for you, head cold you didn't need and as that abscess on your backside, that isn't a good thing to have. Are you sure its not shingles coming back in a different place? My ole pharmacist got shingles on his backside and couldn't sit. He told me about this wonderful spray that may not be available in your neck of the woods. When I can remember the name, I'll post it.

We are having snow, had snow yesterday, but the sun came out and melted it, except for where there are shadows. May happen again today, but to go anywhere outside of the Reno/Sparks area, would need to use 4wheel drive or use chains. So won't be traveling to California.

I am almost ready to start remodeling my sewing/embroidery room and can hardly wait, but need to do some more around the house first. Maybe when it is redone, I'll feel like doing my crafting again.

I have the shingles jab, so definitely not that, it is about the size of dollar coin and just as round, throbbing and red. When i had my shower this morning i turned the water on to scorcheo in the hope it just might burst. Hasn't happened.

I hope your remodelling is successful. It's working around the mess.

Phillipa, just because you received the shingles vaccine, doesn't mean you can't get shingles. The shot is only a 50% chance of not getting it.

Lizsam, Jack is so cute. What a picture he makes.

I feel for you starting the New Year in such a terrible way Phillipa. The weather doesn't help either, neither do stupid people!

My son left this morning after a very enjoyable 5 days. He saw his friends from school & their families & spent lots of time talking with us.

Today I weeded & finally won the battle, no weeds in the garden. Tomorrow in mulching day & pruning a few rampant trees.

Thank you for sharing another photo of Jack, Lizsam.
