      Default "I think God is a quilter"

      I got this in a newsletter from a favorite quilt shop and I wanted to share it this morning.

      I Think God is a Quilter
      (Author Unknown)

      I think God is a quilter Who takes His needle and His thread
      To piece our world from nothingness and give it form, instead.

      I think God is a quilter ‘cause everything I see
      Are pieces from His careful Hand from tree to bumblebee.

      I think we see God's stitches, His texture everywhere;
      The velvet moss, the grainy sand, the silky strands of hair.

      I think God is a quilter; stitching tight and tiny rows,
      Adding to my scraps and pieces, seaming everything He knows.

      I think He cuts the patterns from what I'd throw away.
      He shows me how to use each scrap in His redeeming way.

      I think God quilts a pattern from everything I live;
      But He can only stitch the quilt from what I choose to give.

      I think God is a quilter stitching strength where I am weak.
      Showing me that life He touches, embraces everything I seek.

      I think God is a quilter from the patience in each thread;
      Proving length of time no barrier; treating time a gift, instead.

      I think quilts are the lessons God uses just to teach
      That our pieces and our remnants have kaleidoscopic reach.

      So, in the life I'm living with pieces everywhere
      I'll give them to The Quilter to stitch with loving care.

      I'll give them to The Quilter, unwanted though they be
      And with His work of quilting,

      He'll make a quilt of me.

      Thank you so much for sharing this, tndenim. This may sound strange, but I have always felt that by creating things, I do what God intends for me to do. I do not quilt anymore, but I used to do patchwork quilting, never bought any fabric for it, and the poem reminds me that the smallest piece can be used.

      It's all in the perspective. Try a positive one, like me.

      Default What a wonderful perspective

      I have heard of an analogy that God is weaving a tapestry, and we sit under the loom, unable to see the beautiful picture that He is creating. But your poem expresses things even better, because we do help to provide what He creates by what we give. And sometimes we are able to see what He creates as it happens, though we may not see the overall effect from our own perspective. It's kind of like being able to see one block of a quilt, but not how it adds to the overall design of the entire quilt.

      Thank you so much for sharing this poem. I think I will have to print it out and put it on the wall of my sewing room. I might even think about embroidering it onto a central block of a quilt. That second step would not be for quite a while, though. But I think it would make a great wall hanging.

      Again, thank you for taking my day up another step.

      So many embroidery designs, so little time. Sigh...

      I was going thru mey emails this mornign when I came across the poem. It really did start my day out quite well. I've been working on sewing stuff most of the day and parts of the poem keep coming back in my mind.

      I keep thinking about bits of scraps and how he uses them. Made me think a bit more about the scraps that I discard as well. Can I still use them? Can I make something from them to use in his work?
