      Default Did You Hear????

I want to share some wonderful news with all of you. I have been hearing impaired since I was about 3 years old. I think it was about 12 years ago that I finally broke down and got a hearing aid, if any of you use them then you know they don't make things clear just loud and it can distorts the sound. Well back in August my audiologist tried a new kind of hearing aid on me, I wanted to cry, you see I don't ever remember hearing much of anything in my left ear, he was standing behind me, talking very soft and I heard every word that he said, it was as clear as day a bright sunny day. I remember years ago I was with my mom when she got her hearing aids, we walked outside of the doctors office she stopped and just stood there, the tears rolled down her face, she was in her 40's and it was the first time she ever remembered hearing the birds sing. When I got my hearing aid I thought I understood what she meant, when my audiologist put this new hearing aid on me, the events of the day my mom got her hearing aids came flooding back to me, because I really understood what she meant all those years ago. Well my insurance company said no I didn't qualify for this new hearing aid, I cried. Today my doctors office called me and told me that the insurance company finally said YES, I can have it. Do any of you have a Cochlear inplant, if you do please let me know how you like you inplant. If you don't want to post here you can pm me.

Penny, so happy for you. Not hearing impaired, but next to my sight, hearing would be the other sense that I would not like to be without. Now, you can hear your DD and DGS, what wonderful things to hear. So happy for you.

I am not hearing impaired, but my father is and I am trying to get him to try out new hearing aids....I had a friend who said the new technologies in hearing aids made an incredible difference in her life. Think its great that your health insurance company saw sense !!

In our family Pennie, Mom and our brother Randy all had major hearing issues while the other 3 of us never did. I am soooo excited for my little sister! I can not imagine what she has gone through! All our lives we have learned to compensate and communicate with each other with very few problems. Pennie is my bestest friend in my whole life, praise God for this miracle in her life.

Pennie, that is the best news. I have been thinking about you and wondering if you had gotten the new hearing aids. Thank God for this blessing.

Pennie, I am very happy for you!

I don't know anything about the Cochlear implants, but I am definitely going to ask my audiologist about it. The aids that I have just make everything loud and I still cannot hear with it, so it is easier not to use it at all.

Sonia, you can goolge it under Cochlear implant or BAHA implant, BAHA stands for bone anchored hearing aid. I'm tellling you it was the most amazing thing I ever heard, my audiologist used like a head band to hold it in place so I could hear how it worked OMG!! you have to make an appointment

Pennie, I am so happy for you and I have heard nothing but good things about the implants, so go for it girl....you are still young enough to really enjoy the rest of your hearing days.
I was told at my last ear check that my right ear qualifies for a hearing aid, but want to go as long as I can, but after reading your elation, I may rethink this.....

Paged, I am very excited. It's hard to explain but the difference between the hearing aid that I have now and the one I tried on like the one that I'm going to get is like the difference between a very cheap car and a top of the line BMW. To be honest it makes me cry to think about what I will have and what I have now. To help me explain this (I tried to copy this but I don't know how) please check out under google girl hears for the first time, watch her video, it will give you some idea of how I feel. (It's ok you can cry with her, I did)

What a wonderful bit of news. My mother had meniere's disease, among other things, and had trouble hearing and I know how difficult life was for her! I am so happy that you are able to hear now!

Pennie, I am so very happy for you. What a blessing! My mother has gone through a similar experience and upon getting them, she stopped, listened and cried. She had hearing aids earlier on and they too, were not very effective and extremely annoying. She had to take them out to talk on the phone. One day when she answered the phone, she took out the hearing aid and set in on the coffeetable. She forgot to put it back in and when she remembered and went to retrieve it, her dog had chewed it up. Her warrantly did not cover it. We were all sick over it. They were extremely expensive. She insisted they didn't help anyway and wouldn't look into another until I nagged her and made an appointment for her. And like others are saying, we discovered the technology had changed immensely and the new aid even cost less and they were able to send the other old one back and replace it free of charge because they no longer sold the old one and they needed to match. She loves her new aids. Without a doubt, it gave me the greatest pleasure to give her this gift!
