Cool Embroidery designs using Rik Rak

      hi

I've been trying to incorporate Rik Rak in my applique designs, and wondered if yenz guys had tips and tricks to secure rik rak down a running stitch to be top stitched.

I have painters tape, but that only held the ends down, then the middle of the rik rak line moved on me. Is there a safe way to secure the rik rak between the painters tape?

This is a problem when trying to use rik rak on the outer edge of a circle.

      Any ideas out there?

I would recommend Dritz Temporary Adhesive spray to the back side of the ric rack (hint: spray in a protected area). Best of all, Dritz does not gum up the needle.

Thanks! I had thought of a spray, but then I'd get it in more places than I want, and the hoop and needle would get icky...I was hoping for a roll on...or something. There must be a secret to doing this!!

Darlene, I would use school glue sticks on the rik rak. I use it on other items that I'm appliqueing and it works wonderful. I haven't notice any gummy residue on the needle.

      Red face Got glue sticks!

We went out to dinner tonight and Target was next door, so I went in and came out with the only glue stick they had. Well, they had another glue that goes on purple, but dries clear, but I chose not to go that route!!!!

Will be trying to use it to tack down rick rak over a straight running stitch then sew a straight line down the center - that is my goal. After my morning dentist appointment I and going to give it a shot! Stay tuned!

I had an idea.. not sure if this even exists, but is there such a thing as FUSIBLE RICK RACK? Seems this would be a great idea for rick rack placement!! Has anyone ever seen it?

      Cool

I winged it today - I had no pattern, just my imagination and my software. seen this design online and decided to make my own. It is applique with rick rack. I made many mistakes and I have come the conclusion that rick rack MUST be much easier to apply and sew down outside the hoop!!! The glue stick worked ok - but took too long to stick. Still looking for a better resolution.

      Cool RICK RACK APPLICATION ANSWER!!

I know I bought the glue stick, and tried it out. I felt like I got more glue on me than I got on the rick rack!!!

Today I was in Pat Catan's - and as I wondered down the fabric isle - it hit me!!! Stitch Witchery!!! 1/4 in wide is perfect for jumbo rick rack!! I came home and tried a 5 inch piece and gosh darn!!!! It worked perfectly!!! So, there you have it....stitch witchery is great to adhere rick rack to your project, then sew it down!!!
