      Post Tips

There will be more recipes. Meanwhile, put your tips here. We all have them, and they're nice to share to make life easier.

      Extract Tip:
When a recipe calls for vanilla extract, I often cut the amount in half and substitute the other half with almond extract. Makes a wonderful blend.

Better taste results are obtained if you buy the
pure vanilla extract, rather than the artificial.

For a different twist for easter or valentines day, try
using lemon extract in plain type cookies.
ie: rolled sugar cookies, or even plain spritz

It just gives it a different flavor and can be made into
a yearly tradition. I always use lemon extract for
      valentines day rolled sugar cookie.

Now I will be trying it with the spritz too. !

Almond extract is a nice add to a plain cookie or shortbread type cookie.

1/4 cup of light karo syrup added to your cookie dough will keep your cookies soft.
using butter flavor shortening in your cookie dough will keep your cookies from getting dry/hard after a few days.

Default To Clean a Food Grater

      To clean a food grater-
use a toothbrush - clean and new for the purpose of cleaning the grater - to brush citrus rind, onion, cheese or other particles out of the grater BEFORE washing it.

Default To Clean a Meat Grinder

Before washing a meat grinder, run a piece of bread or a raw potato through it to help clean it out and get those particles out of the places they seem to like to hide.

      Default Tip: Keeping Rolls Hot

Rolls will stay hot longer if you place aluminum foil under the breadcloth or napkin in your roll basket or bowl.

to add to quiltersblocks hint.....before using a Food Grater....spray with a 'Pam' variety of spray and it will be so much easier to clean. If shredding cheese you may have to spray 2 or 3 times according to amount being shredded.

To keep Cakes from Crumbling: add 1 teaspoon of honey to the mix just before last second of mixing, pour in pan. Most people never taste it as it is so small amount. You can add more if you do want a hint of honey taste.

My tip is not so much a recipe, but a hint about freezing. I enjoy lemon slices in a glass of iced water and discovered that if I slice a lemon and freeze the slices, they taste just as good as fresh.

Also, I chop up green, orange and red pepper when they are on sale and freeze them, too. When added to salads, they also taste almost fresh.

We like the spreadable butter but not the store prices. I make my own: 2 sticks REAL butter (no substituets) soft, beaten with a wire whip (if you have one)on your mixer ,slowly add 3/4ths cup canola or olive oil and beat well. "Try it...you'll like it. Spreads easyly
